Make Your Voice Heard — Interplex Business Park, Calgary

Interplex Business Park · Calgary

Make your voice heard

The City of Calgary is proposing to sell our 1-acre amenity park to HomeSpace Society for a 60-unit “High Complexity Supportive Housing Project”, described by HomeSpace as “a facility for residents who cannot live independently without medical intervention”.

Interplex Business Park is home to five Corporate Champions in their fields, employing over 3,500 Calgarians. Its landlords and tenants pay over $1,800,000 in property taxes. There has been only minimal consultation with neighbouring tenants, and alternative sites have been rejected. The site was never planned for this use. Your voice can change the outcome.

Summary of Issues for your email

Personal emails carry more weight than form letters. Use these points as a starting frame; the email builder above includes the ones you tick.

  1. Reference the file number: Rezoning Application LOC2026-0058, Interplex Business Park.
  2. Process concerns: the City is proposing to sell a designated 1-acre amenity park with limited public notice. HomeSpace Society will not operate the building. It will be leased to an operator “to be determined”, leaving accountability and standards of care unresolved before Council is asked to approve the rezoning.
  3. Wrong location for the residents: an active business park with no nearby medical or support services, and no nearby amenities such as grocery stores, pharmacies or everyday retail, is not a suitable setting for people needing complex daily care. Interplex Business Park is home to five Corporate Champions in their fields, employing over 3,500 Calgarians, including AltaLink, the operator of critical electrical transmission infrastructure for the Province of Alberta, and multinational engineering firms whose work depends on secure, uninterrupted site operations. The park’s landlords and tenants pay over $1,800,000 in property taxes.
  4. Mixed messages to investors: The Calgary Economic Development Authority promotes Calgary as a great place to invest and employ people. Yet companies that invested millions of dollars to locate in a master-planned business park now see the City advancing a project next door that is incompatible with that plan. Approving this rezoning sends the wrong signal to every business considering a move to Calgary.
  5. Only minimal consultation with neighbouring tenants: the businesses and employees most affected by this proposal have had only minimal consultation. Council should not approve the rezoning until neighbouring tenants have been properly consulted.
  6. Alternative sites were rejected: HomeSpace rejected the donation of the 90-room existing former St. Regis hotel. They also rejected another superior alternative site, according to all parties. Why? Because the park is being transferred to HomeSpace by the City of Calgary Land Department for $Nil.
  7. Applicant response is inadequate: HomeSpace Society only offers to provide corporate tenant neighbours with “a number to call when issues arise” rather than genuine consultation.
  8. Ask for action: request that Council refuse or defer the rezoning until proper consultation and a suitability review are complete.
